The impatient pickup fills my rearview mirror
as though the driver wants to push me aside.
No matter how fast he drives,
there is always someone blocking his way,
frustrating his freedom.
I pity him, this macho driver, always taking
the path of most resistance.
And I pity myself, for similar reasons.
No matter how fast I work,
there is always another task
in front of me, blocking my way.
I check off the items —
Done! Done! Done! — but
vigorous organized efficiency
does not seem to be the way to get there.
Please, Someone, clue me in!
