catbird in front of hedge

In the shelter of my hedge,
other life thrives:
English ivy and honeysuckle,
grape and what-is-it?
Whole trees shoot up —
mulberry, maple, and mimosa.
Birds nest above; voles cavort below.
I'm up on a ladder, cutting everything back.
And you, good Lord, what are you up to?
